these lists basically consist of black american music, the artists are mainly from the u.s. but the music itself is often the synthesis of various traditions across the african diaspora, especially in south and central america and the carribbean, as well as western european art music. all the styles listed are partially descended from jazz and therefore blues (and often they draw from both simultaneously)
